The owner of this Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 certainly took an ambitious approach to making his vehicle go faster for drag racing.
In fact, he decided to equip the Chevelle with a Duramax diesel engine from a General Motors heavy duty truck.
The decision goes against a more convential way of gaining more speed through say nitrous and various other bolt-ons.
The Duramax engine takes advantage of three 66mm compound turbos, resulting in 90 lbs of boost tuned by RPM Motorsports. As a result, the engine garners 850 horsepower and 1,400 lb-ft, of which and could be upped to 1,100 horsepower and 1,800 lb-ft easily.
The power is sent to the rear-wheels through a Hughes Performance XP5 Powerglide automatic transmission and an XP5 13-inch torque converter.
In the video, the beast of an engine launches the Chevelle down the track a quarter-mile in 10-seconds flat moving at 135.8 mph!
