Rumors regarding the next generation Jeep Wrangler’s potential diesel package have been swirling around for quite some time.
Now, AutoBlog is reporting they have received a tip from a source confirming the Wrangler will indeed be available with a 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine coupled to an 8 speed automatic transmission, a package already offered in the Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Unfortunately, Jeep’s Gabrielle Schulte told AutoBlog he is not allowed to comment on future vehicles so the report cannot be 100% confirmed at the moment.
Even though an EcoDiesel/Wrangler collaboration has been rumored since around 2013, new, stricter fuel economy and emissions regulations could make developing a Wrangler diesel/8-speed combination a more difficult task than in previous years.
Obviously, if the next Wrangler features an aluminum body, it will be more lightweight and help contribute to better overall fuel economy.
Most importantly a Wrangler diesel/8-speed will be the ultimate offroading beast, any Jeep owner would be proud to call their own!
